I'm in college now!

Okay, no one reads this...maybe i should take this opportunity to tell all of my deepest secrets and embarrassing stories...but then again, thats what 'facebook' is for. (HA!)

Artist's Statement

As a senior in high school, I have reached a pinnacle point in my life as an artist. After two years of intensive instruction in the visual arts, I am now preparing the biggest exhibition I have had yet.
My work in the "Sealed For Freshness" exhibition will include my strongest pieces, predominately those of figure drawing.
My first period of struggle after I was accepted into the Arts department at the Boston Arts Academy was figure drawing class. With no prior instruction, my work lacked a sense of value, proportion, and composition.
In fact, I did not know what composition or value meant in terms of visual art. Therefore my work lacked the interest, curiosity, and life that my classmates were able to bring into their own pieces.
However, after a few months I began to grasp these new terms and to even apply them using different media including: watercolor, pen/ink, charcoal, etc.
By the end of my junior year, I was ecstatic every Friday when my class had a figure drawing course. I finally grew into my own element! I am now at a point where I can comfortably apply my technique and newfound knowledge to the content in my work whether it is a comic strip or even a painting.

Within my work I have grown and developed individuality that will not only set myself apart stylistically, but will make me feel prepared for my first semester of college at MassArt.

THE LATEST ISSUE.

So here it is! Finally my senior grant project is coming to a close, and I have three lovely comics strips addressing BPS issues for the public to view and hopefully anger!

GRANTED!

Sooooo...I got granted. No big deal. You know...Hahaha, yes I am very grateful and astonished to be one of the senior project finalists. My project is titled "The Latest Issue". It is a series of 3 comic strips. Each comic strip will address an individual issue that students face in the Boston Public School community. I chose three issues by asking students at the Boston Arts Academy as well as student run organizations such as the Boston Student Advisory Council what they felt was an issue affecting their education.

So, with that said I present you my first strip: MCAS (drum roll please)

This is an illustration project that I am doing for Berklee College of Music. Well, its a draft unfortunately, but I will be sure to put up the final image they choose to use.

This is for my exhibitions class. It is an unorthodox business card, however I am thinking about getting quite a few printed professionally for my own promotion as an artist.

For this project, I am concentrating on my form.

studio4 critique

This past Monday, my class had a critique on our work thus far. I really like hearing what my classmates have to say because they always point something out that might not have ever crossed your mind. A few people commented on how my pieces are nice and all, but my craftsmanship is poor because of smudges which wouldn't look very presentable in a portfolio. I recieved many flattering comments that boosted my confidence about materials I struggled to work with. I LOVE my studio 4 senior class!!!!
